Collier County Approves Incremental Increase in Water and Wastewater Impact Fees

Collier County commissioners approved a phased increase in water and wastewater impact fees over the next three years, based on a study indicating an 80.5% increase is necessary to fund capacity expansions for the county’s water-sewer district.
The new ordinance, if adopted, will implement the first phase of fee hikes on December 1, 2024, with subsequent increases in December 2025 and December 2026.
A public hearing for this ordinance will be conducted later this year.
The proposed fee increases have stirred significant discussions, especially regarding their potential impact on new homebuyers and developers. Currently, the new fees for single-family homes over 1,500 square feet would be approximately $6,470 for water and $5,614 for sewer, totaling $12,084. Homes under 1,500 square feet would have a reduced fee structure. This decision comes as a balance between funding necessary infrastructure expansions and mitigating financial pressures on new developments and homebuyers.
